I just bought a 1972 fabuglas boat with a 165 hp OMC inboard outdrive motor. I have no clue if it runs or not but I need to find out. I was looking on the outdrive and don't see where the watermuffs could possibly hook up on this. Any help? Also if you know anything about these boats and engines could you please tell me a little more about them because I have no clue, I actually have never heard of the brand fabuglas until I bought this boat. Thanks for the help :D

On the lower unit there are a row of holes 5 or 6 in a row on both side. you want the muffs to cover them, that is the inlet for the water pump.

It could also be a slit or somthing...it will be in the same spot maybe a differant shape

It's probably an OMC Stringer drive and some have a hose adapter on the pivot covers on the top sides of the drive. If not you may have to get a big plastic barrel cut it in half and stick it under the drive ans fill it up with water with the drive submurged up to the cavitation plate.

find a piviot cover, go to hardware store a good quality brass male hose fitting, drill out cover on center, jb weld it in drilled hole, bolt up. also buy double female hose conector and brass screw on cap. cheaper than oe if you can finde one.

tee one of theses flush tees into your hose from the drive to the thermostat housing so you can attach a garden hose. Also handy for doing quick impeller performance checks. - under $10 at most auto parts stores

this is the way that I do it as well, but I never run for long. does this T line get water to everywhere that it is needed, engine and outdrive?

You need to find or make a double female hose connection for you water hose, then hook your garden hose where shown in this picture. It will supply water to the raw water pump.

I took a few pictures of the outdrive. Could someone tell me if this could possibly be where I hook up the watermuffs? It is the very small hole above the orange tie down.

yes, you can run it forever that way- keep engine rpm below 1500 same as any engine on muffs

Did you by any chance even look at the reply just before you posted. The one with the connection that OMC built into the drive.

Yes I did look at the reply and before I posted. And I actually went outside and looked at the outdrive and didn't see that connection like on that picture you provided. I just really need to know where to put the dang watermuffs so I can try to start it tommorow. I am new to boating so I really have no idea about hardly anything so I don't want to screw the engine up. Could you even see the picture I posted?

I can't see the pic you posted. You may need to downsize it to attach. I'd like to see it.

Interesting how you managed to avoid photographing the area where Don specifically pointed to in his reply.

Ok I will take a picture of that too but I could not find that hose connection.

that hose connection did not come on any OMC drives - it was a dealer-sold service option for those wishing to run their boats on the trailer. It does exactly what the $4 flush tee will do.
