I'm in the process of assembling my 35 hp Chrysler; Model # 35742 Serial # 1147 and I don't know where the points wires hook up to since it was disassembled when I got it. Can anyone help with this?

I uploaded a pic, hopefully you can see it.

Re: Where do the wires go?

I should have mentioned: The two wires I'm talking about are visible coming out from the under the flywheel and dangling on the edge.

Can't determine if those wires are coloured or not, they may have been replaced but are they not the wires coming from the points to the coil negatives?

I will see if I can find a diagram.

Thats for the killerswitch. Short them to cut out the engine. If you have an ign.key they shall be connect to the two M terminals.

here is a manual you can download for a 35 courtesy of Swamp Thing:

Page 18 for schematic.

Gerry

Thanks Gerry, but how do I download it? I've tried with Rapidshare, where the link takes me, but no luck! Grrrrrrr...........

As far as the color of the wires, they are black and they come from the points.

Glad you got it, with all the water, you may need it soon. I was there with a helicopter in the 97 flood but this looks like it may be worse.

Good luck

Yea you have to click slow download (it's really not slow) and then wait a minute for it to start. I think it's confusing on purpose. It's a PIA but it was the only place I could find to host the files. Hope it helped you. I'd be lost with out the manual - lol

Yeah, once I read a bit further into the site, I realized that I could hit "slow download". But you're right, it's not really that slow at all! Thanks a lot for the manual, SwampThing!!

Yeah, they're talking like it may be worse this year. The over land flooding has already started and they're not expecting the Red to crest until the 25-28th or so. It's not going to be pretty. Thanks again for the manual link!

I don't see any ignition coils on this motor. I have seen coils on the motors with generators, but I don't know if this motor needs coils or not. I know, it sounds stupid, but I simply don't know. Even in the manual I got off the link you sent, I see all the motors with generator/alternator have coils. My motor does not have that. It's magneto. So, what do I hook the points wires to? I'm having a hard time finding out. Very frustrating.

Re: Where do the wires go?

strtbobber haven?t you read my reply? It is for the killerswitch. Connect the two wires at the terminal at the exaustplate on the engine (no other wires connected) then if you have a ign.key you connect two wires at the terminal (exaustplate) to the keys two M terminals. When you turn off the key the M terminals short out together and kill the engine. Have a look at maxrules.com / tech.spec./ ChryslerForce wirediagram and then "klick" at 35-55Hp w/alternator. There you have the wirediagram for magneto ign. with points.

Sorry, Nordin, I think I misread yours the first time. Thanks so much for clearing it up. It makes more sense now. I'll give that a shot. Sorry, didn't mean to ignore your reply! Thanks again!!!

Nordin: Then again, I don't have any coils on this motor. I'm becoming more confused and frustrated. I also can't see anywhere that coils were ever mounted on this motor. I've seen pics of other Chrysler motors, and where they have the coils mounted. In that place, on my motor, I can see the threads are painted. Obviously there has never been a bracket for coils mounted on there. So, is everything I need for ignition under the flywheel?? I apologize for my ignorance, I don't have a full understanding of how the ignition system on here works. I hope someone can clear this up for me soon. Thanks for everyone's help!!

Re: Where do the wires go?

Alf;

Here is the direct link to the diagram. As you have stated that you have magneto ignition, you will not have coils. If you blow up the diagram linked you will see the two black wires going to the terminal on the engine and attaching to the blue and white wires which then go forward to the ignition switch, Blue(M) and White(M).

Hope this clears it up for you.

Re: Where do the wires go?

My 1970, 35 HP Chrysler Mag Ignition System?s black wires appears to be on # 3 & 7 matched with white ignition wires (attached). A 55 hood is on the 35 HP. I hope this will help and I have many other pics if you need any. Good Luck! jow

BTW, I haven't talked to anyone with the identical motor as mine. How do you like it? Does it run well? Enough power for a 14' fiberglass boat? Any issues or tricks I should know about?

I just connected all the wires today and hit the key. The choke solenoid worked, but the motor didn't turn over. Seems like the connection to the starter is interrupted. Any ideas?
