Where does this connect?

I have a 1986 Yamaha 40hp 2-stroke tiller outboard. I recently replaced my cooling impeller and noticed this 1/8-3/16" tube next to my shifter linkage connection point. It wasn't connected and I don't see anything to connect it to? It connects to the gear case directly in front of the shifter rod. Can anyone tell me where it goes and what is it for? Thanks.

Pitot tube for speedometer?....if there's no speedometer then the tube in non- functional
