It's gratifying to see so many new members seeking and giving advice, but the advent of summer has ushered in the usual frequent misplacement of threads; outboard questions in the Pontoon section, fishfinder and stereo questions in the General Boating section, Pontoon questions in the General Boating section and in the Outboards section, and on it goes. Guys and gals, not every iboater frequents every section. That's why the board is conveniently broken down among the most common topics. Therefore, it's in your best interest to at least make an effort to determine where your post belongs.

For example, if you're looking for help with a Johnson outboard, the Pontoon section is not the place to get it, even if said outboard is hanging off a pontoon boat. Instead, your question belongs in the Johnnyrude section. That's where the people knowledgeable about your outboard will be found.

If you want to give your question its best shot at receiving a useful answer ask it in the right place. Before anyone says it (not that I have anyone in particular in mind:p), I'm well aware of the irony that this post probably belongs is Dockside Chat. I just think it will help more people here. That is all.

lol I hope it helps people but then those that don't search, don't read the stickies, and don't scroll down to the proper section probably won't read this before posting either

Maybe we need a 15 second video clip flashed on the screen of every new member with the above info :D

Re: Where Does Your Post Belong?

It is rather amazing that people can do a Google or Yahoo search about boating issues and end up at iBoats, but once on the site (or any other site for that matter) they lose the ability to search. I've provided suggestions for the site in the past and it is and will likely be what it is . iBoats owns it and they can do with it what they want. I can live with that and will simply remind folks (sometimes not so gently) that the search feature and stickies are there for a reason -- after which the poster usually responds with a "what jerk you are" comment".

Re: Where Does Your Post Belong?

I agree with all of this, including bruce . . . lol

With the intent understood, and the suggestions agreed, I have to say that not every topic's location always makes sense. A good example is low WOT RPM. Is that a prop topic (pitch), an engine topic (performance), a boat topic (soaked foam), or an SHT (operator error)? Heck, there's no way to know until we get into it.

There's even a hidden issue that some of you may have "witnessed". Mods moving stuff around that was already moved by another Mod, and then moving it back when the other Mod says "Hey!", and then agreeing that it should be in a third place. That's always fun . . .
