Your water pick-up is located on the skeg behind the prop. The front = bow. Why would you need to run your motor W/o a tank. You will need a special type flushing attachment. I believe tempo sells them. You may still have to cut the springs down so it will fit correctly.

Its a pain to fill up a garbage pail and dump it ect. i ran it without a tank when i was putitng it away and i dint want any left over gas in the carbs to make them get clogged

Nitro boy
In my opinion you'd be money ahead to stay with the trash can (tank). the ole 30 gal tucker is about the best. The tank provides safety, less noise and most grass loves hydrocarbons.

There is 20 inches of snow on the ground LOL. Does grass realy like having water with un burn oil and stuff being poured on it?

Nitro Boy,

I have a '57'. To my knowledge, the water intakes are around the cavitation plate. A "muff" won't work.

Break out the bucket.

The cavitation plate (or anti ventilation plate) is the large horizonal fin located above the prop. If you look at the vertical fin behind the prop, where the main exhaust exits you will see a screened opening. This is the main h2o pick-up. They do have flush attachments that fit this type deal. They are a pain in the butt. On the other hand with 20" of snow anything is a pain in the butt. No worry bud spring is comming. Around here the grass grows best in the driveway.Seriously the tree huggers call the oily grass thing biofiltration. We have to sod diches(Bioswales) here to save indangerd salmon.

Run it in a bucket. MUCH easier in the long run...
- Scott

Mornin' Nitro,

I've got to agree with the others. Use the Bucket/Trash can. Easy and safe (once the snow gives the opportunity).

This is an internal combustion engine. There is imminent risk of serious damage by running the motor without cooling water. There is a very good probability that the water pump (impeller) has been damaged by running it “dry”.

It might be suggested that you replace the impeller to minimize risk of further potential damage.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

Hi Again Nitro,

This series of motors (engines?) was common across several hps and years. They are a gem to work on.

Parts and manuals can be found at online sources including here at iboats as well as at

http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcindex.html

and possibly, even at your local Bomb/Johnson/Rude dealer.

Another source for OEM manuals is:
http://www.kencook.com/

Other sources for parts might include

http://www.featherweightoutboards.com

and yes, your local Napa dealer (but having the correct part number is required info for order/purchase)

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!
