My fuel gauge does not ready accurately so I probably have to replace the sender. Where exactly is it located?

Re: Where is sender?

The sender should be located in the top of the fuel tank, likely by six screws. Access to the tank and sender is different in every boat.

Thanks

I will remove the cover to the motor today and take a look underneath. I imagine it will be a tight work space

tight space...yes!
Make sure the sender is the same rating as the old one, and clean the surface of the tank before you put the new gasket and sender on or it will leak...don't ask me how I know.

I Really Doubt changing the Sender is going to Fix a thing..........

Boat fuel gauges are Notoriously Inaccurate........

You'd be Better Off, to leave it alone,+ learn to live on the 1st 1/2 a Tank.............

my fuel gauge is so inaccurate that the needle barley moves. After boating for nearly an entire day it showed a quarter tank. I understand your concern though. What is the 1st 1/2 tank rule?? - keep at least half a tank handy incase you run out??

I think he means know your tank's capacity & how far that will get you....
& allways top off.....
Personally, I would try a new sender, what have you got to lose?.....:)

That is why I replaced the sender. It may be inaccurate but its better than nothing even if you are calculating tank capacity and distance!

Re: Where is sender?

When you find the sender, before removing and replacing it, remove the wire to the sender and ground it. Your fuel gauge should peg to the full. (I believe it pegs to full, it could be the other way around, but the idea is to be sure your guage works. When you disconnect the wire it should go to empty. When you ground it - it should go to full. If it doesn't then you have a problem somewhere other than the sender. Maybe a bad wiring connection or splice, or even the gauge itself.
