Go on the net (ebay etc..) and find the factory service manual. Those are the best I have found at giving you the info you need. also make sure it comes with all the current tech bulletins.

The Merc manuals are the best ones to get, especially for the Mercruiser 470 style engine that you have. It's not a Chevy or Ford, but built by Mercruiser.<br />You may find one on ebay, but if you don't, you need Book #8 for your engine.<br />You can buy them from the link below, about 20 bucks cheaper than you can get them from Mercruiser directly.<br />And don't expect to to find one with "All the current tech bulletins" that just ain't gonna happend even if you buy one directly from Mercruiser.<br /><br /> Order Service Manual
