I would like to join those who really despise grinding/cutting/pulling out old fiberglass :mad2: I truly have a new found respect for those of you who do this work for a living.:clap2:

I'm in that club, the grinding is the worst, and many thanks for Tyvek suits

Your choices are wood, fiberglass, carbon fiber, aluminum, and steel.

Pick your least offensive hull material to you then.

Fiberglass is cheap and easy to use, and to mold to desired shape. For this reason, it is used in boats from 7' to 180' in length.

None of us like the itch of grinding, however it is a necessary evil of older fiberglass boats

I think I am immune. I get a little itchy on my forearms, mostly when I rest my arms on the inside edge of the hull (deck off) while I think. Grinding was not at all bad. I did wear the tyvek suit once, but I was too hot. So I just had jeans and a work shirt. Mask, glasses, etc, but no itch! So far, I have really enjoyed working on the glass boat.

I'm like Drb .. I have worked with so much itchy stuff over the years that it really doesn't faze me much ... Try sorting shrimp , fish , and crabs from a huge pool of jelly fish ... Wall insulation is not that bad either ... Now the yellow pipe insulation will bother me quite a bit for some reason ....

When it comes to itch, not all glass is created equal.

Some types of resin and glass are worse than others, and the bad stuff can be really bad.
