where is the pee stream on a 150HP?

i used to have mercury 50hp and i knew the telltale sign of the pee stream. now i have a 1975 mercury 150hp and i put the muffs on to get her ready for this season. cranked her up but didn't see the pee stream. looked for a hole but didn't see any. didn't want to mess the motor up so i turned her off and looked. i didn't see anything. when she was on i noticed water come out right above the lower unit on both sides. is this different than the 50hp?

I mis-spelled 'exhaust', but this pic shows where you should see the telltale stream exiting. You may also get some water spray and exhaust out the upper exhaust ports but thats it. Water spraying anywhere else other than the prop is abnormal, and should be investigated as to its source.

Sometimes take a few moments before the telltale starts to squirt. Less than 30 seconds for sure. You might try sticking a section of weed trimmer line up the hole in case it is plugged with debris. Many critters love to make it thier home.

My 1976 150hp did the same thing until I changed the water pump impeller. I also found salt in the end of the tell tail (plastic piece at the end of the hose). After I cleaned that out I shot some compressed air back through the tell tail. Then it peed mighty fine.

Space, On that motor there is a rubber hose that runs from the cylinder head cover (between spark plugs 1 and 2, to the telltale hole. They clog all the time. Remove the cowling and pull the hose off it's nipple and blow thru it.

BTW - most of the water comes out of the grates above the A-V plate, as you observed.
