Where is the serial number ?

Had a half arsed look for my serial number in the usual old mercruiser places (air cleaner cover and plate on the front behind serpentine belt) and can't see it.
I'm sure the old mercs had a plate on the front, but this is a newer MPI model. The air filter cover space for it to be written is blank.
Reason for the half arsed look, was that it is under total cover, it's dark and it was feckin' freezing !

The mpi engines usually have the numbers listed on the electronics box . . . Otherwise look for a tag just above the starter.
