I've just purchased a 1978 Apollo 17' boat w/ supposedly a 350 chev. It's driven w/ a 260 Merc w/ power trim and has been outfitted w/ a Land and Sea torque shift prop, hydraulic trim tabs and thru hull exhaust w/ chrome droop snoots (not a quite boat when on plane).
1- Everything works, 'cept the speedo quit my first day- plastic nub that holds tubing on pick up/sensor broke off, but I'm looking for manuals on the engine, trim units (tabs and drive), merc drive, wiring, etc. How should I go about obtaining those?
2- I'm considering running the exhaust back thru the drive to quite things down while on plane - I see a rubber cover over what seems to be the exhaust entry into the drive unit. It looks as thought I'd have to combine the rubber manifold exhaust tubes then route into the drive. Is this correct and could there be a way to put a captains choice type of setup on there?

Thank you
new boater

Mercruiser #2 should work for both...But #6 is more detailed when dealing with the drive. Look on e-bay or go to stemto stern.com ....JK

Re: where obtain maintenance manuals for...

Well, I got the '64-91 Merc manual but have a feeling finding an Apollo boat manual is going to be impossible. There is some sort of stock no-feedback steering system, a stock throttle shift lever (black metal housing w/ aluminum lever/black round knob w/ the little aluminum neutral pull out knob behind the lever(not merc branded- not sure what brand it is) - all is real sloppy -need maintenance help here.

anybody have any thoughts on the retro choice exhaust? I'm hoping to research existing captains choice exhaust components and customize my own solution.

I found rot in the transom. Dug it out (- 'bout a 1.5 square ft section), pulled all hardware (leak was old removed kicker mount bolts and trim tab fittings) and I'm going after w/ a penetrating epoxy then rebuild, and intall all back in w/ adhesive/sealant- 3m 4200 product.

any warnings or suggestions on above?

I need to break up this into seperate posts...

thanks
Mike
