Where should a bow roller hit

I am a little confused here. I just bought an 18ft 1990 Maxum openbow with a matching escort trailer.

The question is where should the bow roller hit on the front of this boat? Also along the same lines, where should the boats winch eye be in position to the bow roller above or below when the trailer is loaded.

It looks like the previous owner had the boat eye resting right on the bow roller, which left the weight of the boat resting on that eye. I could be wrong but that just dosent seem right to me.

1 of my boats is above the other is below. Not really sure if it makes a difference but the eye definately should not be resting on the bow stop. Most winches are adjustable up or down. Watch for clearance when turning your winch crank.
I would think that the eye would work better if below the stop but I guess that depends on how high up it was installed in the hull.
There are different length stops available also.
Mike
:)

thornious,

MG is right. The bow stop should be ABOVE the bow eye. That method helps keep the boat on the trailer in a panic stop or front end collision with the tow vhicle.

I've seen plenty of pictures of boats sitting on top of cars/trucks after a collision.

You might also want to add a safety strap or chain from the bow eye to the trailer frame. Don't rely solely on the winch.

In most states the safety chain/strap is required. In my state they don't require transom straps. Figure that 1 out.
I meant the winch assembly itself, not the stand. Most are bolted on to the stand. Don't move the stand itself, that will change your balance and tongue weight.
