the title explains it, but where can i buy a rebuilt engine from a trusted place? i have to replace a ~'82 mercruiser 260 5.7L. Rapido marine keeps coming up online, but i researched and they dont have the best reviews. i checked out rebuiltautoengines.com (there marine page obviously) but they dont have turn key engines. I know there's a place called MJM engines here in san diego and Outdrive Exchange in Costa Mesa. I just want to make sure its from a reliable shop so if anyone can give me a review on any of these, or suggest other places as well i would appreciate it

I'd look locally first, being in San Diego, there has to be a good engine shop somewhere close. Have you asked this question on a local forum? If you don't know of a good local forum, PM me, I know of a good So Cal/SD forum to ask your question.

For what it is worth, I just replaced my Mercruiser 260HP 2bbl 5.7. I purchased the engine from a distributor on the East Coast...Outer Banks of NC to be exact. They are sorta local for me.
The engine is a BARR marine engine. Basically a 350 Chevy block with Vortec heads and Indmar intake and Holly 600 4bbl.

Everything fit except the slave solenoid/ breaker bracket. So far I am pleased with the engine but only have a few hrs on it.

If you can find a Barr engine, I would recommend them.

I agree wit trying to go local. I bough a 5.7 from a place called Daddyo's marine in Miami. Miami is about 3 1/2 hours away from me.

It's good know that if something happens I can just load the boat up or take the engine out and bring it back to them and tell them to fix it.

It sure beats having to ship it back or dealing with a warranty claims process.
