Where Should I Move? Great Boating

I'm thinking of moving but I'm having a hard time deciding where to go. I need a lively waterfront. I want to be able to sit on my boat at the docks and not be the only one doing it at 10PM. I want people to be at the waterfront with shops and restaurants. Scenery would also be great. What cities have this?

I'm thinking Lake George, NY? Went there on vacation, loved the place. Anybody know of it?

Other than Lake George, a larger city is a must.

The problem with Lake George or any other lake in the North, is you only get that kind of enjoyment for less than half of the year.

I love lake george BUT if your there during BIKE week you might not like it so much

As well as the many other weeks it is jam packed with tourists

Yeah, I know. That's the only thing that's really keeping me away. It has everything I wanted. Islands, scenery, active waterfront, restaurants, and shops.

My Grandparents went to that on their bike I think. Is it a motorcycle rally?
I love tourist towns though. They're always active.

How many $$$$M do you have to spend? Can think of a lot of places that fit the bill right off the top of my head

How about South Beach, Key West, Freeport. or even Fort Lauderdale ?

Even then you may be the only one sitting in your boat at 10 PM but that's only becouse they haven't yet gotten up from the night before

How bigs your boat?

Are you looking for fresh water or salt.

Can you sleep on your boat?

Can you trailer it?

Are you retired or do you need to still work?

I live an hour south of LG and I'm on it all the time.

I actually like Lake Champlain a lot more, but that depends on the size of your boat!

I've stayed on boats in Fort Lauderdale, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Falmouth MA, Newport RI etc

Answer the above ?'s and I'll comment some more if you wish.

i think i should move too..long island is getting WAY to crowded and pricey...florida is to humid for me...and i dont wanna go north as well..delaware or virginia seem nice...if u google "find my spot" u can find a site that asks u a bunch of questions and then picks places for u..obviously boating would be high on that list!!! i'd like to find some where to boat, ride my quad..and not freeze my *&#$ off in the winter...but i'd like a bit of snow in the winter..good luck

california delta, there is waterfront homes and marinas and every turn, and it runs between san fran and sacramento, and stockton

North central Florida also known as the heart of Florida is the only place i will ever live. Your never more then half an hour from some kind of body of water. Only problem is I might have to start learning spanish in the next 20 years, since the non-english speaking population is moving further north every year.

oh man, stay away from LG. I'd bet you'd be better off on a slightly smaller private lake, or something like lake champlain, or a great lake.

I've lived quite a few places here in the 'States as well as up north. Yes it's hot and humid here in Florida in the summertime, no more so than Nashville, Baltimore, D.C., L.A., or any other city I've lived in. I've never seen it break 98 here in the summer, I've seen it well over 100 in many of the places I have lived. Living as close as I do to the water, we have a nice gulf breeze that makes it quite pleasant in the evenings.​

I can boat ANY time of the year here. Winter is awesome here, chilly nights, and bright sunny days that start off chilly and warm up to perfection during the day....​

Well I will throw in my 2 cents.

We have a large beautiful lake here in Mooresville/Huntersville, etc. Lake Norman. About 30 minutes north of Charlotte, NC.

If you have any interest in Nascar, this is where most of the race shops and drivers live.

The lake is real nice. Most places are 50-75ft deep. I can't say personally, but I have heard the water temp never goes below 50 in the winter here. Its in the upper 80's now.

Well I would say Southern California isnt a bad place to be for a water nut. We have numerous marinas up and down the coast and there are the Channel Islands to visit with Catalina having night life in two different harbors. The area may be more costly to be in but we have pretty nice weather all year long without the complications of major storms. We do have an occasional earthquake here and there but I dont think they have much effect on a mored boat.I lived in King Harbor for a couple of yrs on a boat, do a web search and see if thats what your interested in. It is in my opinion the nicest small craft harbor I have seen on the west coast.
