Re: Where there's smoke, there's fire!

Sorry I didn't get on this post sooner Aldo, I've been having big problems logging in again.

I'm so pleased to hear that you and your family are O/K.

Any further news on the fires.

Will I need to bring my asbestos long Johns.

Be nice to hear from Aldo that he's safe, although we can appreciate that logging on will be the last thing on his mind at the moment!

Still praying for you guys to get through this, God speed.

[colour=blue]We are all safe and well. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, having trouble getting onto iboats.

The fires are still raging although the weather has eased slightly (wind and high temps), the forcast is for a return to 35c+ temps and high winds. Unless we get a big rainfall, these fires will continue for months.

2 towns are in immediate danger and a further 12 on high alert (waiting to see what the wind decides to do). About 750,000 acres reduced to ash so far, most of it is mountainous forests.

No deaths reported and only 10 houses torched.

Found a great site that has updated satellite pics -

I will attempt to keep you updated (if I can log on :/ ).

[colour=blue]Three of the big fires have joined and become one mega fire. Nearly 2,000,000 acres torched so far. In 1939, 5,000,000 acres.

40 houses and numerous sheds/barns etc gone. One dead (bulldozer rolled and crushed the driver while he was cutting a firebreak). A couple of dozen small towns under serious threat, 2 large towns also under threat.

The smoke is getting worse. I live about 150 miles from the nearest fires, the smoke just hangs in the air and the sun has no intensity. I work about 50 miles from the fires - see pics.

A view from my 'office'.

Re: Where there's smoke, there's fire!

[colour=blue]6 weeks and counting but some heavy rainfalls have finally arrived and all but 2 of the fires are 'controlled'. Unfortunately, the two that are not controlled are the biggest. So far, over 3,000,000 acres have been turned to ash. Scores of homes destroyed and hundreds of sheds/barns etc. Thousands of animals have also been destroyed/killed. At this stage, most of the fires are turning back on themselves so they should be out in a week or two.

I saw on the news last night that 200 U.S. and Canadian firefighters are arriving shortly to help relieve our boys - they have been fighting these fires for over a month.

Thankyou.
