When my 1978 Slickcraft (and rebuilt engine) are safely home againe, it will be time to replace the carpet. The boat is burnt orange, the vinyl in the boat is burnt orange, and the carpet is... you guessed it, burnt orange. I can't imagine a color that will go with orange vinyl and orange gelcoat besides orange. Where can I find a good selection of marine carpets so that I can try to match what I've got now? I've got the skill and assitance to do it myself, just need some experience to get me started. Thanks.

Lowes here had a selection of outdoor carpet on the rack. If you looked at the label, the manufacturer approved it for marine use. Yet, because it did not have "marine" or "boat" in the title, it was priced way below those that do.

And it was in stock!

Menards-

They have an excellent assortment....on SALE at .33 cents a foot... I have installed it using aluminum runner strips to hold it down... I did not glue it since as we know you should have the easiest access to the entire boat possible...makes replacement real easy as well. Just cut, lay and put runner stirp along the outer edges..running the lenght and one down the middle if you need it...my seats held mine down well so I only used the perimeter strips..good luck..

Re: Where to buy Carpet

I didn't shop Menards, but the product they carry at our Lowe's is marine carpet. They had 8 or 10 colors but I don't recall what they offered that might work with burnt orange.

I found the same carpet (same manufacturer, same oz. rating, etc) online. Lowe's had to special order with a 10 day wait. When I bought online the carpet was shipped for free, received 2 days after sending electronic payment (unbelievable I know) and about one-third cheaper than buying locally.

Worth a look anyway:

Gray works well with any color even burnt orange.

Thanks for the carpet source Terry. They look to be the best I've seen so far. Good prices and free shipping for orders over $50. d:)

Re: Where to buy Carpet

I was very pleased with my purchase there and recommend them every time someone is looking for a marine carpet source. I'll definitely buy there again. I shopped ebay too, but no one can touch this guy's prices and the service speaks for itself.

Good luck with your project.

Re: Where to buy Carpet

Thanks for all of your suggestions so far.

I'm more interested in mainting the look of the boat, than replacing the carpet with vinyl or another color.

I don't mind paying more for what I want, and so far I have still not be able to locate something similar to what is in there now.

If anyone has another other suggestion about where I might find rare marine carpet colors, please let me know.
