I believe that my prop is starting to strip...unless they have a clutch. In larger swells on the river hit a wave and the rpm's rise...and at wot I can hear it slightly fluctuate. Did a parts search on this site but no props were found. Is this something I could PROPERLY install? I'm used to building street/strip TransAms and Mustangs....motor swaps...heads...etc if that tells you what I can do. Needless to say I can use a torque wrench.

Joe

What you are describing is normal prop blow-out when you hit the big waves, as your prop actually comes out of the water and "Freewheels" with no load. At wide open throttle, you may want to try trimming the motor in a bit and see if that helps. Where is your cavitation plate in relation to the bottom of the hull? You would never make it to full throttle if your prop was slipping. If you do install a different prop, it is very easy. Unbolt the old one, slide it off and install the new one with a new cotter pin. But I don't think that is your problem. Prop link at the bottom of this post..

The motor is on a 16ftx6ft jon boat without power trim. The main reason I thought it was the prop is that the prop looks like it has hit MANY a rock and has chunks out of it....not like half the blade or anything but it has definately been below the damn more than 5 or 10 times. I bought the boat used and u guys helped me get her running properly and I appreciate the help!

Joe

I believe it is a short shaft motor. I'll just manually adjust the trim and see what happens. Thanx for the help.

FireAm94

If the prop is ate up, by all means have it repaired at a prop shop or go ahead and get a new one. A prop that is out of balance because of bent blades or large chunks out of it, can ruin a lower unit or at the very least, ruin the propshaft seal. And not to mention, make the boat run bad. Repair it or replace it ASAP...

Prop

Or:

Prop 2
