Where to cut fiberglass when replacing stringers?

I want to try and repair the stringers under the motor mounts on my boat.I need to know where to cut at? Just cut the top flat section out or do you cut the fiberglass on the side? Also is it okay to use pressure treated plywood as long as I epoxy it?Also I'm changing engines from a 1985 omc3.0 4cylinder to a 888 mercruiser 5.0 v8.Will this V8 just sit at the same height as omc or will I have to raise or lower stringer height? Thanks for any info guys.This is the best site for boating I've seen yet.

ummm, dodnt know a huge amount about your engines, but as to your plywood question, yes you can use p/t ply epoxied. it cheaper too!!!!

I'm not a motorhead, but it seems like going from a 4 cyl to an 8 cyl isn't just a slight upgrade. You might want to ask over in the motor section, unless you've already checked into the specs on your boat. They'll also answer all of your questions about how the new motor will sit, by comparison.<br />I did motor moutnts last week, too. Cut the old out where it meets the stringers. A roto zip works great, but please please PLEASE be careful with the depth. I just fixed the hole I cut in my hull, but I'm learning. For the new mounts, I used a piece of PT 4x6, covered it in penetrating resin a couple of times, cut a notch at the bottom for the drain, puttied the floor and set it in place. After that, I glassed it to the floor, pre-drilled the bolt holes and filled them with resin, and then bolted it back down. If you follow the old pattern to get your height right, the motor can be adjusted by a little bit, after the fact.
