Actually a lot of Mercs are made by Tohatsu. Small ones. But funny you're only seeing Tohatsu. That's a minor player here on iboats. Most questions revolve around the Johnnyrudes, Merc/Mariners, and Chrysler/Forces. Some Yamaha, Suzuki, and Honda to boot. The Nissan/Tohatsu category is pretty slow. (I'll bet you Googled "outboard break-in" and it directed you to a thread in the Nissan/Tohatsu category.
)<br /><br />Did you buy that new or was it overhauled? New motors come with owner's manuals. The instructions should be in there. Basically, for 2-strokes you want to mix double oil for the first tank or two and keep it away from full throttle for awhile. Four-strokes are the same minus the double oil. (If it were mine, I'd mix at 100:1 for the first tank anyhow and change the oil and lube after the first hour ... but that's just me.)
