Where to find GOOD used Outboards?

Have been looking for a decent used 150 HP to 200 HP outboard and not having much luck. I watch Cragislist and eBay closely and they are as rare as hens teeth. (At least in my part of the country.)

I've even called around to local (100 miles) dealers and they have lots of small motors but not the larger ones.

I am a little hesitant to buy a used motor long distance, no way to test run or even really look it over and I don't need another anchor.

Any suggestions?

i got lucky and found a new powerhead on ebay for not as expensive but if i haddent found it i was getting ready to get a new one for that very reason, why spend 3500 on a used one when a new one costs 5000 and is new.

That's true. I've seen a lot of crap boats being sold dirt cheap (as in a couple hundred bucks) with good motors on them.

I'll third on this..........I picked up my '76 Merc 1500 for $500 because it was attached to a crap boat! Turn around and sell the crap boat/trailer for a couple hundred bucks and be done with it!

You can always go to bass pro for a new motor, they often have inventory with prices on-line and if need be, will ship between stores for you. They actually have some decent prices too.

If you want a Johnson call John @ 615-289-8950 as he has a 1998 Johnson 150 60 degree looper with NEW factory powerhead and 90 day warranty for $5500..
