Where to find serial no on 90 hp merc?

I have a 90 hp merc that I've been told is a 96 model but the serial no's on the plate are non existant, where should I be looking on the engine to identify this motor, thanks guys

You should find it on the lower starboard side of the engine block. Should look like this:
