Hello,
Lot's of good info on this forum; you all definitely know your stuff!
So, I'm trying to get this motor (model Fd-15-F) running in memory of my Dad who passed away last month. We were planning to work on it together, but we just never got the chance.
Anyways, I know that I need a carb float (when I removed the carb, I found that the float inside was literally crumbling to pieces) and I also need a 'low-speed' needle valve (it's crooked on the end). So I already ordered the 'carb-rebuild' kit, and the 'needle and valve seat', but I don't see the float or the low speed idle needle anywhere for a '61 18HP. Not sure what to do at this point.
Also, as I am taking the carb apart, it's really 'gummy' in there, and the high speed needle valve, inlet valve seat, and the high speed nozzle are all stuck. I was planning to take them out to clean them, and put them back in according to the manual's specifications, but they are pretty well stuck in there. Is this common in case of really 'gummed up' carbs? Would some good ol' WD40 do the trick. I definitely don't want to risk taking these parts out, and then I might bend or break one of them, and, of course, not be able to find the replacement part, KWIM?
So, anyone have any thoughts that could point me in the right direction here?
Incidentally, I have done a compression test on the cylinders, and that came back fine. (don't remember the exact numbers) So, that is why we were planning to check the carburetor situation next.
