Re: Where to get tires cheap?
why are you looking for cheap tires? those tires will be hauling your boat and if they fail you boat goes too. take care of your toys and drop some money on some nice tires.
I'd rather have cheap new tires than old, dry rotted tires any day. Some folks just can't afford the price that they want for some of these tires these days.
There's also a difference between getting cheap tires and getting good tires cheap.
I just priced new tires for my car and the best local price for name brand tires was over $650, I got off brand tires for $225 installed with the same warranty.
I'd venture to bet that they will dry rot long before they ever wear out on that car much like the original ones did that only lasted 15k before they were so cracked and dry they were unsafe. They were on the car only 15k over a 6 year period. What sense would it make for me to spend $650 for high dollar tires when I drive the car maybe a few miles every few weeks. On a work truck that carries weight and runs a few hundred miles everyday I use better rubber but even there I've not seen a big difference between brands lately.
I also try to shop apples of apples, the ply count and tread thickness and rating makes a difference in how the tire will hold up more than the brand.
I had a driver puncture two front tires while out of state, the only tire dealer around with the right size tire in stock for the van had only Chinese el cheapo tires, that was a year ago and about 39,000 miles, they have worn just the same as the Firestone tires that were on it. Not that I'd buy them again, but at $59 per tire vs. either towing it home 200 miles or leaving it there vs. $159 for each for the identical replacement tire, I think I got my moneys worth out of them. The ride fine and have no issues. They look like Michelin clones but say Good Ride on them and made in China.
At $59 per tire and having them last a year and almost 40K on a 3/4 ton work truck the runs at highway speed all day long, I'd be tempted to buy them again. I've seen no drawbacks to those two tires as of yet, and they've still got more than 1/3 their tread left.
