I have a 87 28 johnson, I have been having a problem with it dying from running out of gas I had a thread about it some time back and had worked on it with t.d. we thought it was the high speed jet but I replaced that and still the same problem I can keep it running as long as I keep priming the bulb. I tried using a friends tank and it had the same results. so where to look next

Got nothing to do with the high speed jet. By pumping the bulb you are becoming the fuel pump.

Also check all fittings and hoses, to see if you're sucking air. You didn't say that you used your friend's fuel hose when you switched tanks

Try another tank and hose...a known good one. If problem goes away, you have a tank/hose problem. If not, you need to check/rebuild/replace your fuel pump.

If it runs properly by pumping the bulb there is a fuel pump issue. Bad pump, incorrect hook up, sucking air etc. If pumping the bulb makes it run but not correctly, there's another issue.
