Where to mount speakers?

I have an old AM radio I am pulling, and the little speakers inside the side panels are too small to fit the new 6" speakers. Also, the new stereo has 4 speakers. I think I will be cutting to mount 2 speakers in the rear of the side panels facing inwards, but where do you guys think I should mount the 2 speakers up front?

I was thinking between the walk-through, on those blank panels also facing inward. Does this work ok? Will it affect the sound too much having speakers so close facing each other?

I originally installed two 6x9 in the lower panel of my bench seat that is directly in front of the sundeck......then installed two 6.5" componets in the driver and passenger kick panels, that was not a good location cause the rears over power the kick panel speakers..... so I added to 6.5" speakers in the front of the storage box's up front, that really made a big difference in sound, and the front passengers can hear the tunes without really cranking the volume up.

You didn't mention it but I also mounted my amp in the drivers kick panel...............by the way what is a AM radio?............... just kiddin

2 speakers side by side on the very front of the bow facing aft, might work pretty good.

I suppose I could also mount the 2 rears on the front of the doghouse, side by side, and have some quick disconnects to unplug them when I do maintenance. Not sure if I would want them there though.

I had a similar 4 speaker set-up as you describe (2 in walk-thru, 2 in rear side panels), but in a 17-footer. Worked real good. Everybody could get some tunes.

I had 2 6.5" in the driver and passenger kick panels. I added 2 more 6.5" in the rear. One on each side under the seats facing forward. I think that was a good decision because the sound travels forward the length of the boat. With the original 2 speakers coverage was iffy. Adding the second 2 definitely made it a lot better.

^^^^Great advice from 'coolbri'^^^^

Also, remember that sound generated in a boat has nothing to bounce off of and therefore escapes into the air (just another reason to carefully consider speaker placement). And, speakers mounted directly across from each other tend to cancel out the sound they are delivering.

The aft facing speakers sound like a perfect idea, I would definitely reconsider placement in the walk-through panels.

Good luck!
