Hi iboats crew! I'm trying to rehabilitate my father in-laws bass boat and need a service manual for the engine. I cannot tell for sure what year it is. Merc 60 3cyl 2 stroke. Serial from the engine is 0g0976** Issue I'm having with it is from the controls I can only trim the engine down. I swap the 2 relays, and it still only goes down. Tested from both switch at engine and from throttle arm. I jump the trim motor direct to battery and it does in deed go up and down. Also have to pull and rebuild the carbs, so need the proper butterfly sync proceedure for this one. Any links to the correct manual would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks Scott - but unless I am looking at it wrong, that is for newer outboards, this one is for sure Pre 2000.

Only legal place to buy manuals is from Brunswick/mercury. Call them, they have manuals going back to the early days

If the trim doesn't work from either switch, but does when you jumper it, it is likely the up wiring where the trim wires meet under the cowling. Check the bullet connectors for unplugged or corroded.

Some older motor models have a trim limit switch. On the 80s motors it is located in one of the trim cylinder brackets. usually you would have a trailer button to tilt the motor up on that design.

Works down from either switch, just not up. Going to start opening wire bundles to trace the cables down....

Do yourself a favor. Pull the cowling and trace the blue wires from the PTT relays to the switch in the cowling. See if it goes thru a trim limit switch, or direct to the switch. It might just be unplugged or broken.

You might check the large black wire connection to the down relay. For up to work, the down relay must be grounded, when not energized. I believe those relays have 2 grounds, one for the primary and one for the secondary circuit.

Since down works, the ground (and power) on the down relay primary circuit are good.
