I have a 1980-1981 18hp Mercury. It runs great and I want to use it. I want to know where I can order basic parts such as carb and fuel pump gaskets. Crowley Marine has some of the gaskets but most are no longer available. . Does anyone know of an online retailer that would stock these gaskets? Thanks for the help.

A serial number helps when ordering the right parts. I prefer OEM Merc/Quicksilver fuel pump and carb parts if I can get them.

yup, the serial number is 5608471 but it doesn't help much because this was the last year the Mercury used the old 7 number and all the modern websites that I have looked through wont recognize this serial number for some reason.

I've found Crowley to be one of the worst places to look for parts for older Mercs. I have a 7 digit SN and have no problems finding parts by serial number at other places.

Verify the serial number. 18 horse Mercs made in 1980 through 1985 and begin in 1980, with SNs 5860332 and then 6617631 and up for 1985.

Max Rules show your serial number 5608471 falls in the range for 1980-1981 20 horse motors. How accurate the chart is - :noidea: Trying to help. Is the fuel pump on the carb?;

You are correct it is a 20hp. I don't know why I said it was an 18 hp, just frustrated I guess. Another thing that threw me off is that even though my motor is a 20 hp it is sometimes called a Mercury 200. I don't know why. Now that I have the correct serial number and hp I'm sure I will make progress in finding the parts. The fuel pump is on the carb. I'm replacing the gaskets on it because the motor idles fine but immediately dies when I open the throttle. thanks for the help.

Can't help with that. LOL

My motor is a Merc 500. When I drug the boat home and showed it off to the Admiral, she said "Isn't 500 horsepower too much for that tiny boat?" :eek: :lol:

Local NAPA dealer had Mercury parts manuals since no dealer anywhere around here and no Internet back then.

look through these part # s all are available and I believe will fit.your.carb. In the 60s and 70s Mercury liked to add 0s to the hp.

Mercury likes to list their motors in a range of serial numbers.

Your serial number (5608471) falls in the range 4709593 & up and is a Model 200.

I get: 1399-5137 (OEM) or 18-7815 (Sierra) for diaphragm/gasket kits like flyingscott.
