Where to Place My DIY Wakeboard Pylon?

Guys,

I'm building a simple DIY Wakeboard Pylon for my 25' Chaparral Sunesta sport boat. My question is this, how critical is the placement of the pylon in relation to the length of the boat? Is the center of the boat better? Does it really matter? The most practical place to "anchor"the pylon is just ahead of the captains chair which is about the center of the boat.

I guess I would look at it like this. Maybe I'm wrong.....The further back you place it the harder it will be to plane out with the fulcrum being at the back. The further up the faster the boat will be on plane. I guess I've seen them in the front and the back. I have mine in the back because i don't have much room to walk to get to the bow. Would make it very hard to squeeze by the pylon to get from the bow to the back of the boat. I really don't think though, if your boat has enough juice that this makes any difference. When I had an underpowered motor I just moved people up to the front of the bow until the boat planed out. Now with my 115 hp motor, I can have 2 people sitting in the back without any problems.

I always thought you were supposed to pull close to the boats center of gravity, but that may be more for slalom than wakeboarding. That would probably be somewhere <1 foot in front of the motor on a I/O, i would guess.
