Where to put zinc anodes?

Just wondering if there was another place to put a zinc besides the cavation plate?
The motor is a 61 Johnson 40hp. There is a Dolphin fin mounted to the plate now.
I have repaired the pitting on the skeg with Marine Tex and primed with zinc chromate.
Just trying to give the old girl the TLC she deserves.
Muddlerman

You can put them anywhere that is in constant contact with the water-while running/sitting.

The trick is to make sure you have clean connection to bare metal (bolted on) and DO NOT paint the zinc(s).

Re: Where to put zinc anodes?

I mounted mine to the side of the lower unit, just above the cavitation plate. I drilled right into the exhaust chamber and tapped the holes to take 1/4" screws. The trouble with that spot is the surface is not flat, so I had to grind quite a lot of material off the back side of the zinc.

It's probably not the best spot, and better protection could be had by having two small zincs, one on each side of the lower unit.

DO I put the zinc right over the painted surface? or do I scrape where the zinc is going?
