last ride of the fall something bad happened. somehow the flywheel nut backed off. it sheared the key and damaged the threads on the crankshaft. how easily can the threads be repaired? ive never done any thread stuff before. also should i check the flywheel to make sure it didnt bend and that its still balanced?

motor is a 70 evinrude 85hp

Well, I would just clean up the threads and get a new nut and see how things go. Torque it properly and you should be fine.

You could also take it to a local machine shop and have a re-threader run on the threads, Most shops charge very little for this type of job. as it is quick and simple. Once you put the new key & flywheel back on, torqued to spec if the flywheel spins level & true I think you will be good to go. good luck
