I also use PVC tubes for securing my rods out of the way. I still lay them down on the deck when trailering to avoid hitting any low hanging branches along the road to the marina. Dont trust PVC for fishing from though. Not for big fish anyways.

Did you do anything special to the top of each piece of pvc? I was thinking of heating the tops to flare them out some.

I only sanded then at each end so that the cuts were rounded off. Sanding drum on a Dremmel works great for that. If you use spinning reels you might want to cut a notch in one side of the top to accommodate the reels leg.

Wow! You guys have really done some impressive things with your barges. They really do make great platforms for catfishing, walleye fishing, that sort of thing. It's really nice to get some new blood in the forum with some different ideas about how to enjoy a pontoon boat. Keep up the good work.
