A few years back, I got a dollar in change when I was working in Oshkosh. It had been rubber stamped with "Where's George?" and referenced wheresgeorge dot com where you could enter the serial number and see where it had been by a chart of logged responses. Since they originate from Oshkosh, the trip had been rather short as you can imagine.

When the Federal Reserve Bank first got wind of this, they contemplated charging the originator with defacing federal currency. But the more they thought about it, the more they liked the idea. So they signed onto the concept, and the website has seen some major improvements. There's a map that traces the route, total miles, and other data.

The last one I got was in Princeton which is about an hour away from Oshkosh. I figured that it was no big deal and that it hadn't logged many miles at all. But I checked it out anyhow. I was pleasantly suprised. It had travelled to Texas, Colorado, Canada, and back to Wisconsin with other stops inbetween. The simple rubber stamp appears to have been replaced by a farily sophisticated print, but they still seem to originate from Oshkosh. You can even win $1000 if you find the right bill. Have you seen any of these yet?
