Be safe and change the impellor before you try to use the motor. Cheap preventative maintenance.

Re: wheres the water come out

Hi ya' doin Doc?

Yep, ya' got a 1962 40hp Rude there.

If memory serves, look inback of the prop and you will see a tab hanging down from the anti-cav plate with a hole in it. The return water exits there. Also, some will spit out the hole that is located at the rear of the midsection just below the lower engine pan.

At idle, the engine temp should read approx. 140 to 145 degrees F. when measured at the flat spot just behind the head on top of the engine. The thermostat is located there also underneath a three bolt cover. The cover will be triangular in shape.

Make sure the lower unit is in the water well above the lower unit to midsection matting line if you run it on dry land. A garbage can will suffice ok if ya' don't rev her up. Just keep her at idle.

Hope we've helped.
