Where's the wood?

Well the saga continues... Knee Joint was starting to come loose from Transom and Stringer. Sanded it down, to epoxy it and put another piece of Plywood to give more support. The knee joint was not even with the stringer, looked like someone went crazy with glass. Took the circular saw and tried to even it out, and lord and behold, there is no wood, first thought... the ever dreaded dry rot... but no wood at all. Upon further investigation, found a 1X2 on the top of the stringer. Looks like they use that to create a frame and create an almost all fiberglass stringer. So looks like I don't ever have to worry about dryrot, at least in the stringers. Now the question is what would be the best way to patch up that hole and make it structurally sound. Overlay the whole area in question with several layers of mat fiberglassed in with generous overruns on both sides and top and bottom. Better than new.

Consider Seacast for your project. Google it and you will find it is a pourable transom casting material...pricey but strong. It might be an option.<br /><br />Bob

that area don't have to be filled with anything some manufactures use cardboard or plastic form to cut down on weight and use the fiberglass for strength.
