WHICH?? 07 Honda 50HP or 07 Yamaha 50HP

Hey Everyone,

I know these are both great outboards but I am undecided on which to put on a Lund Explorer 1600 tiller (mostly used for fishing). Which is the better outboard, most fuel effecient, more torque, less noisy? All opinions are welcome!

Unless the Honda and/or the Yammy is EFI the Johnson/Suzuki DF50 (EFI) is the better engine.

buddy has the 50 yammy, i have the 50 honda
both on 16' boats.
we both love them.
i would have to say one is as good as the other

Seriously, for starters, why not go the respective forums and read the gripes. Ought to find out real quick which is accident prone and which isn't. :%

I'm a Merc fan - an OLD Merc fan. With their new Verado, they've lost me. A super-charged 4-stroke that weighs as much as a hippo? No thanks! Evinrude (BRP) has taken the outboard in what I feel is the correct direction. TWO-STROKE all the way! Seriously, look into the ETEC. This is where I wish Mercury would have gone. In my view part of what makes an outboard an outboard is that it is a two-stroke motor. At this point in time, I will NEVER own a 4-stroke outboard. To me it's like a contradiction in terms.

Well Blanch, I'm not buying anything in the near future. Gotta wear my '02 out first. Like a lot of folks say, 4 strokes have their problems. Looks like the mfgrs went off in different directions. Course I understand Bombadier wanting to get the old omc names back in the limelight.

The epa has gone nuts trying to control everything in the USA. I know lawnmowers and outboards are really contributing to air pollution. :| Guess that's what happens when you delegate authority (power). Course they better start developing some king size atmospheric filters cause reports I read says China is/is going to blow the current USA pollution away (like put it to shame here), via the global winds.

What are they going to do, pay China to quit producing the stuff we used to produce but the epa closed down all the factories?
