Gentlemen,
I replied to the last post but it was so far back in the archive that you all probably didn't see it. So let me say thank you to each and everyone for all the info. I learned allot. For the post I believe I would prefer a 4 stroke EFI in the 40 hp range. Not knowing anything about 4 stroke outboards, I am concerned about weight for my old Duracraft 15 ft aluminum boat. Will it support it? Will it break over and plane and trim out? As J.B. said, I don't race my boat, but I do want it to level out and not swamp. Maybe I am over reacting to the weight difference. I am also considering the Mercury though my experience with them in the 2 stroke past has not been good. Anyone that has 2 cents I am ready to listen. All y'all are very experienced and I appreciate your help.
Jabo

Hi. Jabo.

Over 240lb. seems a bit much for a 15' semi-vee, which I assume your Duracraft is. That's where you are going to be with a 40hp EFI 4 stroke. If it will take the weight it should jump up on plane and go like the devil if you ask it to.

Check out the Mercury smaller EFI 4 strokes, and the carbed 25 and 30 hp 4 strokes from just about everybody. I believe your boat would plane quite well with anything over about 20hp. I had a 15' aluminum bass boat years ago and a 25 would push it as fast as I wanted to go.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

The weight of a 40 Hp Mercury 4-stroke EFI (3 cylinders) is 216 lbs dry. For comparison, a 2-stroke 40 Hp Merc with 3 cylinders is 205 lbs, with 2 cyl. it's 165 lbs. I don't know the weight of your previous outboard, but anyway you should be able to estimate the difference.

By the way, it doesn't matter if the previous thread on this topic is far back in the archive and way down on the list. As soon as you post another reply it'll be right back on the top, like magic...

Jabo, check out the Suzuki website. They have comparisons of different brands of outboards and their features. Hope this helps.

Re: Which 4 Stroke replay

Yes J.B. it is a semi-v bass boat. The 2 stroke 40 I had on there takes a little bit to break it over and that is why I was wondering.
Tema, my current and siezed up 40 hp Merc is a 4 cylinder, dual carb, oil injected. I don't know the weight either but according to your posted weights there may not be much difference in the 40 I have and the 4 stroke 40. I guess I just need to quit asking questions and get off my butt and go out and find out what I can and can't do. I will let you guys know the outcome.
Thanks,
Jabo
