Assuming all were equally maintained, is there a favorite out there (reliability, economy, performance) to put on the back of a ski boat (16-18 foot <1000 lb. fiberglass)?

May be in the market this fall for a used ski boat, and want a good motor. Thanks for any info.

actually I prefer the 85-87 120-140 motors. in my area we had cyl liner problems with the big bore 120-140 motors. but niether are fuel sippers. the cross flow 90-140 motors are basically all the same design and will all fall into about the same fuel economy. but the big bore loopers, if propped correctly, will haul a skier out of the water.
