Which Alarm is it ??

Hello fello outboarders !
Got a 1996 115hp Rude Ocean Runner and it seems my alarm went off today and would not shut off. Just put in new tstats, water pump is 2 years old. The alarm is a steady and consistant with no beep, beep. Ive always thought that a steady alarm meant running hot. I disabled the head alarm wiring and even took out the thermostats and she was running real cool and the alarm still went off.

The only other alarm this could be is the vro pump alarm but I always thought this to be a beep beep alarm. The vro pump has been replaced 2 years ago.
Could this also be a bad alarm horn?

Any help is appreciated.

check your vro oil tank for water. oil will float on top of water so just bye looking may seem fine. water will be at the bottom where the oil is drawn from.this will sound your alarm.

If it is oil related, why is it a steady alarm sound ?

im not shure if your v4 has an vacuum switch.
is it the optical ignition?
and does it have a vst?
if so it could be a vacuum alarm witch is the same as the overheat alarm.

i know for shure that it would be the case on a v6 optical ignition.

Mine is the same way, I'm assuming it's just wired up wrong. if I ever get the time I'll tinker with it and try to straighten it out and hook it up right. I thought it was an overheat but the no oil light was on. i checked to make sure the hot light came on by shorting the temp sensors and it did. Now I have to figure out why the no oil light is coming on. I kinda suspect my oil tank isn't venting, but will check for water as well. motors tore down for a carb rebuild right now so good time to do it. It may end up waiting till winter, I'll just pre-mix till I get it straightened out. If you have a factory manual it has steps to test the alarm circuits, would help you isolate which is the culprit, that's what I plan to do once I get it running again.

I'm having the same problem with my 91 Johnson 70hp. Tracked it to the oil tank sensor. unpluging the wires from the tank at the engine stopped the alarm. Will try to find a new pickup kit tomorrow.

It depends on what generation System Check you have. The earlier ones had the different beeps for different problems. Steady was overheat, a beep every 30 seconds was low oil, and there were a couple of others.

But the newer generation system, that has the lights on the gauge, had only a long loud alarm, and then you look down at the lights to see what the deal is, overheat, low oil, no oil, fuel restriction.

If you have the gauge lights, then most likely you have the system check with only one warning sound. If the No Oil or Low Oil light is on, then I would start troubleshooting the oil system.

As mentioned check for water first, then check for a restriction in the line, or in the filter sock at the bottom of the oil tank. Those filter socks always get overlooked, especially when it seems like they built the boat around the oil resevoir and you can't get it out to check the sock.

Also, don't forget, very often it's just a bad horn, shorting for no reason; that needs to be replaced. very common.
