Yes, Blackadder would have to top my list. Queenie always turned me on.
Frazier was probably the American one we most like in this family, although Tim the Toolman gave us a good laugh, until his kids grew up and everything became a bit too unrealistic.
Dame Judie Dench. I enjoyed her acting with Billy Connelly....and then the film on alcymers(sp!) certainly opened my eyes to the effect of the disease. Great actress.
Cheers
Phillip

LOOK BEHIND YOU: RP mentioned it Nos :D

Where you bin hidin'? Watching too much telly in this cold snap?

Yeah it's amazing when you see other people's lists (like RP's) and then go "DOH!".
"Only Fools and Horses" is a big favourite: is it shown in America?

Got to agree with allthumbs too: Glenbogle Castle was good for the first couple of series....then they got rid of Richard Briers (one of our 20 good actors) and the whole thing became a bit silly unfortunately. It ended last year in the UK although rumour has it that they will do a few specials.

Scottish comedy: "Still Game" which was shown late night on BBC2 was hilarious (if you could understand the accents). "Chewing the Fat" is brilliant but tends not to be shown in england for some reason: same team as "Still Game" but probably needs subtitles and someone explaining some of the references.
And of course, who can forget: "Rab C Nesbitt"???
My claim to fame here: I treated Rab C after he had a minor accident: not at all a funny guy in real life.........I wonder if it had something to do with the injection I was about to give him using the largest needle available :D :D

Stan, they ran "Fools and Horses" for a while...those two guys are great. And the old guy, him, too.

I was thinking of sitcoms is why I didn't mention Python. And Benny Hill - more of an acquired taste, don't you think? And wasn't there another...something about Two Ronnies or something?

And I am unanimous in that.

Nos: moving house to boot? You're lucky you've got a boot. When I was a boy we only had a sandal. A cardboard sandal at that! :D ;)

jt: Only fools was pretty good, real belly laughs at times. Got a bit stupid towards the end but I guess the writer (John Sullivan) just ran out of ideas. John Sullivan has tried a few other comedies, one of the best was based on a cab firm called "Roger Roger": first series was hilarious, second series divebombed badly

The office, brilliant humour and delivery. The American version with almost the same script just didn't work. I liked the Royle family too which does away with attractive and intelligent people and gives us some real working class humour.
Funny, you don't see Love thy neighbour on anymore. I don't know if that ever got over to the USA but if it didn't it never will these days. How about On the Buses? 'I'll get you Butler'

The Young Ones. I had forgotten about them.
In NZ at that time, the teenage kids (at school) took characters, and spoke like their character in everday life: at home, at school.
My son took and learnt to speak like Vivian, and he always spoke like Vivian.
Years later, we saw Vivian in a high-back chair, on TV, telling/reading childrens stories.
My son, then an adult, knew the story and could talk along with Vivian, word for word, facial expression for facial expression.
That show had a cult following there.
I have always thought "Vivian was a brilliant actor. Remember him in Black Adder. Always after Queenies. Bxxxxrstard!!
Cheers
Phillip

"Goodnight Sweetheart" - I missed some at the end and never found out for sure, but I had the feeling that he turned out to be his own grandfather.

Last of the Summer wine still cracks me up, Bill Owen was surely missed in the latter episodes.
