Which Chrysler SUV/truck would you get?

I have a chance to get a ~$30k Chrysler vehicle for a whole lot less than that. Pretty much anything made by Daimler Chrysler. Nothing from DC would be my first choice for $30k, but for my price I can deal with it. Which DC truck/SUV would you buy and why?<br /><br />My list so far, in no particular order:<br />3/4 ton Dodge, few options other than a Cummins <br />1/2 ton Dodge quad cab or mega cab with 5.7L<br />Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7L<br />Jeep Commander with 4.7L<br />Dodge Nitro - available later this year...not sure if I like it or hate it yet.<br /><br />No, I don't need a truck, and no, I won't drive a car.

I think you could put the Durango on your list. <br /><br /> My choice would be a loaded Jeep Liberty CRD(Common Rail Diesel) gets great mileage (22/26) and can tow well from what I have read from owners on the Edmunds.com forums. Rumor is the Grand Cherokee will get a diesel next year. <br /><br /><br />I'm just not a fan of the dodge pickups. I could of got a sweet lease deal on one last year and turned it down.

I am a diesel fan so the Cummins would be my first choice.<br /><br />Made by Daimler I would go for a used ML and I know JB will back me up on that.

The Nitro is a stretched Liberty chassis. Sounds like you want something bigger than that but FWIW I have a Liberty Limited (02) and am completely satisfied with it. Despite what the rabid Wrangler guys say it is a tough little machine that does well on or off road. It's small inside though. The 02 gas Liberty and the CRD Liberty all years have the same tranny as the Ram, they are just programmed differently. 03 and up gas got a lighter tranny.<br /><br />I believe the Nitro will have an all wheel drive system as opposed to a true 4wd like Liberty's Selectrac and Commandtrac options.<br /><br />How bout the four door Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon? I heard talk of a CRD possibility in that too?? Sounds like DMC has done a lot to improve chassis stiffness and handling in the Wrangler line, Rubicon editions are off road ready off the lot.

I'd get the SRT-10 Ram, but its ridiculously impractical . 500+ stock hp......but with 10 cylinders it would hurt the pocketbook. Oh and its more like 50K..<br /><br />If you prefer a truck and not the jeep/suv, I think diesel would be the way to go, especially with gas prices. Otherwise I agree with Calico on the Jeeps.

If you're only buying because of the discount, get a Rubicon. A just for fun rig that will always be in style.

You guys are just making this decision harder. Unfortuneately used isn't an option, though that would normally be my first choice. I would really love to have a Cummins engine, but I don't think the novelty is worth an extra $5,555. (that's more than my current jeep is worth!) A TD Grand Cherokee would be perfect, but the rumors on the internet say it won't be around until late '07/08. I don't really care for the Liberty or Durango...for that matter I'm not crazy about the newest trucks either. A Rubicon would be nice...I'd love to keep the I6.<br /><br />The more I look the more I like the Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L. Whatever I get I probably won't be keeping it past the 3 year warranty. I guess I just need to go to the dealer and wonder around for a while.

No offense, but you have to be not-too-bright to keep a car less than three years. Why do you want to take the new car hit every three years?

For what it's worth I would take a long look at the Durango. They have come a long ways in comfort and quietness since they were first introduced. Lots more room that either Jeep and you can get a Hemi! Also a great tow vehicle.

If you change vehicles alot (3 years) avoid the hit and lease a vehicle.

You don't understand how cheap I'm getting it. Normally I'd agree with you completely...I've never had anything newer than 8 years old even though I'd have no problem affording something new. I Really can't share the details of my deal, but at the very worst, I think I'll come out about even in 3 years. Until then I can just drive it like a rental.

If I bought Chrysler product(about the time hell froze over) I like the looks of the magnum wagon. also Chrysler has always made pretty good mini vans.

Dodge Nitro is that the 6.1 HEMI 450-500 Hp if so that would be me choice,you know speed man!!!!

I'd stay away from Chrysler. We have had terrible luck with the one we owned, and our relatives have had terrible luck with theirs. I'd rather spend my money on the boat.

Ok, here is my .02 worth. Take it for what it's worth.<br />I have owned Chrysler products all my life, the first being a 1951 Dodge sedan, and I have always had good luck from them.<br /><br />I had a 2005 GC with the 4.7L engine and it was awesome power wise. It flat would get to 100 MPH before you knew it. Had 3400 miles on it when I traded it off for the new Wrangler I have now. It has the 4.0L and it is real strong, rides fairly well and has a good stereo system in it.<br /><br />Also have a 2004 Dodge quad cab 4x4 with the 5.7L hemi that also impresses the heck out of me.<br />Just getting ready for it's 2nd. oil change. <br /><br />They have all been good to me so I can't say anything bad about them. Had a ol ramcharger with the 318 in it that would not quit.<br /><br />Just like anything else mechanical, depends on how they are taken care of I guess.<br />You treat a chevy bad and it will lay down on ya.

I know ya want drive a car,but try and drive that 300m with the hemi in it there sweet.<br /> I love the dodges trucks,the older engines like the 318 was hard to kill.i dont why they stoped making them,dads got 2002 i think with one and has 120,00 miles on it havent had not one bit of trouble out of it.
