Hey guys, Big Jay here again....

Got some new Plug Leads from the dealer today with my new coils for my Evinrude:). I told him I needed a foot and a half in length and would trim it accordingly upon installation. However, he gave me 2 leads at about a foot in length:(.

At first I thought he wasn't paying attention, and now I had to tear it all apart to replace the lead that was too short. But now I'm wondering if this engine wasn't wired wrong to begin with, and he knows more than I give him credit for (likely the case:redface:).

I don't know that it ran before I got it, so it's entirely possible. I find I'm doubting myself.
So if the throttle is turned all the way down, I have a coil in the front of the engine and one at the back.
Which is which ?

The Model is 40853A, any clarity would be awesome, thanks.

The coil in the front goes to the top cylinder (#1). I think that you sre going to need a longer plug wire to reach the spark plug.

Daviet, once again you've come to my rescue lol....

I figured the dealership guy wasn't listening, but to his credit, I had him put together the coils and leads for the wife to pick up at 5 minutes of closing time.....

Thanks

Double check the wire lenth on the engine, but I think it's gonna be to short. I could be wrong, have been in the past and will be in the future.

No way will 12" be long enough.

In addition, you cannot really preassemble everything. You will not be able to run the boots through the holes necessary, unless he simply twisted the wire into the coil?

When attaching the boot and clip, cut about 1/8" or so of insulation away, then fray the copper strands back over the insulation. You will get better contact that way. A little WD40 will help with sliding the boot over the clip and wire.
