Re: Which Deep Cycle battery - Nautalis or Energizer

Is that the big grp 31 deep cycle at Can Tire? I have a couple of grp 27 deep cycle house batteries in my boat. I bought a couple energizers at Walmart 10 yrs ago, lasted me 2 years, the warranty left was almost nil so I replaced them with a couple of the same size from Can Tire, I just replaced those 2 a couple of weeks ago and the guys at Can Tire couldn't believe they were 8 yrs old! For what it's worth....I'm sticking with the Nautilus.

Re: Which Deep Cycle battery - Nautalis or Energizer

Nautilus is miles ahead, made by Exide (North American), Energizer from WalMart(China), plates pourous and do not hold charge properly.

Had 3 nautulus batts for home backup, with a 3 stage charger, one batt died after 10 years because I did no properly maintain it (3 group 27 batts).

This weekend I am returning 3 deep cycle Energizer batts (180 min reserve 120AH), for a full fefund even though they were purchased 6.5 month ago.

Being replaced with 3 group 31 deep cycle Nautilus batts (205 reserve @25 amps, 115 AH at 20 hour capacity).

Peukert effect and equation indicate a far superior coofecient for the Nautilus than the Energizers.

You pay for what you get.

I've been using AC Delco Voyager Batteries for the past 7 years. A 4 years life time seems to be the average. One of the two batteries currently in use is going on it's 6th season.

I don't wanna hijack your post, but just cause everyone now knows what we're talking about...

What is the purpose of this battery? starting or accessory/trolling. I too may follow your lead and get the Cdn Tire battery, as I need 2 batteries for trolling and 1 for starting. By the way, is the Cdn Tire battery on sale right now, cause if not I will wait for a few months to entend the purchase date warranty....which leads me to the following questions -

I'm getting very confused after reading probably too much. Just to confirm, I want a battery with a large reserve for trolling (24v Minnkota), and a battery with lots of cranking amps (i.e.:900) for starting? As well, what is the purpose of getting a marine battery for starting if the main purpose is cranking amps?

Just one of the group 31 marine deep cycle(CT#10-3199-6) tested at 896CCA.

These are hybrid batteries, not dedicated deep cycle batteries.

The plates on the Nautilus (Exide made in USA), should do you well for both trolling and starting.

Just make sure you keep in charged up, as any battery, be it starting or deep cycle will self dischage over time.

The warmer it is outside the less amp hours, just the opposite of an automotive battery where the CCA is down considerably in the cold.

BTW, the specs on the hybrid deep cycle are rated at 77 deg F (25.5 deg C).

Good fishing,

The OP started this in 2008 so he prob already bought his batts so answering his question is pointless. Although I suppose he may be replacing them again soon...it's been two years
