If your just cruising with 3 or 4 people its probably ok.But if tour trying to ski with a boat load I think you will be dissapointed. My sisters 18 ft.120hp Merc I/O Cobia scooted pretty good with 3 people but I think sking would be pretty sluggish.
I would have to wonder about parts availability on the Sea Drive.

i would personally, pul the seadrive, and part it out. patch up the transom, and hang a 115 -140 on it. just think of the usable space you will gain.

Your 1987 1.6L SD is rated by OMC at 110 hp per the OMC shop manual. I have a pair of them on my 23' Wellcraft CC. So long as you can get 5500 rpm out of it at WOT you are not going to hurt it. I am told that parts for the SeaDrives are getting hard to come by. I have had zero problems with my SeaDrive assemblies in the 13 years I have had this rig. As to performance - On a 20' CC I would not expect it to be a screaming hot rod even if lightly loaded.

My suggestion is to run it as is until it blows then evaluate the alternatives. I would like to repower mine with a new 225 ETEC but mine are running just fine for now so I'll keep the bucks in the pocket..
