I was looking over the Carb Kits and Fuel pump kits and they both have two different Serial # groups? Which one should I choose..? This is my Serial#4320964 on my motor.

I spent $600 for motor and 82 bomber champion boat. The last time she ran was summer of 05. How realiable are these motors, looking over carb & fuel kits, water impeller, carb floats etc. it's going to take at least $150 to get her rebuilt is it worth it?

If she is to much trouble to up keep.. Is it worth it to rebuild her for resale and if so how much is a running motor of this age and boat worth.

One more thing, I might be pushing it but where do I get the external wire harness for this motor? That's the one that connects directly to the control box and the battery. The batter cables look bad, I cut them down to where good cable was found but I'm not sure it I could just hood up new cable starting from there or should I just replace the entire thing..
Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron, That sounds like about a '77 Merc. You may look up the year at ww.maxrules.com.

They are good running motors with a good power to weight ratio. Check the compression on all 6 cylinders. If you have compression within 10% across the cylinders, and you have spark to all cylinders, I would fix it up

Buy a manual (OEM is best) and some carb gasket sets ($5 each) and a waterpump Impeller repair kit ($30 w/o housing). Clean the carbs, set the floats and do the link and synch. That should do it.
If you do not have spark to all cylinders, expensive oarts will be needed. If you have a junk yard nearby, it should be cheaper.

Re: Which Group? Inline 6 1150 Mercury Thunderbolt

I did a compression check and they are all around the #1, #2, #4, #5, #6 are all in the 120 PSI... #3 was above the rest around 138-140 psi.. is that good?

I have spark, I had to change the switch box and have done so and have spark now it just didn't want to fire. I primed the fuel bulb till it's tight and still no fire. I sprayed some fuel mix into the piston #1 and it fired right up.

So on another post, I was recommended to do the carb kits/fuel pump assembly and water impeller (which I'm in the process of doing).

I just didn't want to get into a situation where I have to be working on the motor continously because of reoccurring issues. I want a reliable motor that I'm going to just mainly worry about regular maintenance issues.

I have a couple of guys around where I live that have 88-90's Merc 115 and selling around $1000. So hopefully, I was thinking that I could get $1000 for both the boat and motor because I wasn't going to use this boat anyways because I have a 16Ft tri-hull Dynatrak 160 that I was going mount the motor onto..

I dont know, still thinking about this..
