Being that I'm on the same river as you, I will say there are probably more I/O boats than outboards. Even down near the sound there seem to be a lot of I/Os.

I noticed that as well once I got on the water. That is why I posted the original question if outboards were no longer desirable or had a lower resale value.

(I am also see a trend towards Jet Drives in the dealerships so perhaps another change in regional popularity?)

Keep in mind there is often a wide difference between what is sold and what works best. Many of the "most popular" types of boats, motors and trailers, or their components, are the least satisfactory (true for many consumer goods). A good example are the underpowered boats, sold that way to bring the price down--you may see a lot of them, but it doesn't make it a good idea.
