Which is better Yamaha 150 2 stroke vs 4 stroke

Looking to repower my boat. Trying to decide between 2 / 4 stroke. I know all the arguements of quieter, heavier vs lighter, more / less torque, etc. Any thoughts about which will last better in saltwater (South Carolina)? I have heard stories about the 4 stroke carb design creating a problem with repairs (trying to clean out the carbs is very difficult?). I have heard about the 2 strokes now (after 2009, thanks EPA) all being fuel injected. Would it be better to try to find an older model with carbs in a 2 stroke? All I want is a motor that is bullet-proof. Any thoughts?

My opinion, find a good, clean, 2 stroke, carbed, freshwater, preferably pre-mix motor, install a fuel/water seperator, use Stabil all the time...Probably about as "bulletproof" as it gets.

Re: Which is better Yamaha 150 2 stroke vs 4 stroke

I have a Yamaha 2 stroke 150hp with carbs offerered to me for sale. Is "new", still in crate, with warranty. When did they quit making the 2 stroke with carbs?

I know they switched to the HDPI system sometime ago, and have heard they are no longer making the 2 stroke (although it is still shown on their website). Anyone know if this is true?

You should consider buying that motor. Yamaha still makes the 2 strokes, just don't import then into the USA, as of Jan. 1st this year. That's what I understand.

Starting to read a lot of complaints from some of the 4 strokers about premature exhaust plate failure due to corrosion. Seeing it on multiple brands.
