Which Kind of drive is this??

Hello, hope you can help me..<br /><br />I am about to buy a old boat, but I ain't sure that it is a alpha one drive. It needs a new coupler between engine and drive, but which one.<br /><br />Can I see anything by looking at the serialnumber? It's 59132534.<br /><br />I have attached a couple of photo's of it.<br /><br />

That is want's known as a Pre-Alpha,.... Or Model 1............Same drive,...<br /><br />If we knew Which Engine you have,.... I could Probably tell you Which coupler to get.......

Thanks for your comment. Motor Mercruiser 470(model MCM470) with 170 hp. Motor serial nmb. 5949072.<br /><br />I have attached a photo.<br /><br />

The Pre-Alphas date from the late 60s to 1983/4...... They're still a good drive,... Just not quite as good as an Alpha.....<br />Your's is a Pre-Alpha......<br /><br />The Alpha 1 is the Most Common drive in the World..........<br />Maybe not the Best,... But the Most Common......<br /><br />The "470" is your Engine Model............<br /><br />That's where your Problems are going to lie........<br />It was a marginal experiment by Mercruiser back in the 80s that just Didn't make it........<br /><br />Good Luck........
