I am going to get some trim tabs, but dont know which brand or style to get. 18.5 Key West CC. I was looking at Bennets sport tabs M-120. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?
I think that Bennett are by far the best and also have the best service. As for the size and type you need gota know your boat size and where you use it. M-120 good for boats near 20 feet.
Smart tabs mentioned here many times a search should find many results.
Apparently cost less and still do an amazing job.no electrics set it and forget it.Excellent tech support as well. Not sure if you will find the best info here or under boats.
Yes smart tabs are a cheaper way to go if all you want to do is bring the bow down.
If you want to have total control of your boat then Bennett is well worth the cost. Things that Smart tabs can not do are many.
Hear is a short list.
You can not raise the tabs when you have a following Sea for Safety.
If Your boat leans into the wind like most your can not correct.
If you want to run at a very slow speed but still adjust to stay on plane in rough Seas you can not.
If you want to run with the Bow High in flat glassy conditions for best fuel mileage and speed again you can not.
If something happends to the steering and you can not turn with bennett you can make slow turns with the tabs.
I bought my boat (22' Pathfinder) used and it came with Lenco electric tabs. So far they've been fine with no problems. Is there an advantage to having hydraulic vs. electric tabs?
Maybe it's just me but I take issue with mounting electric motors in contact with water if there is a viable alternative. It's not a matter of if they will fail, it's when will they fail.
Well I did get the M-120 and installed them myself. The install took three days total. I only had about 2 hrs a day to work on it. Very easy to follow instructions. hardest part was running the power cables under the deck. I had to use a garden hose to feed the wires up from the back to the console. I am pleased with the install. I will keep you guys updated on how well they work.
