Which manual. Seloc or Mercruiser?

I need to get a service manual for my engine. What is the difference between The Seloc manual offered here on iboats for $25 and the manual that Mercury Marine offers for $99?

Someone told me i needed this manual in a previous post
#31 V8 ENGINES 5.0, 5.7, 6.2 Part number 90-864260T00.
is that a Merc # or a Seloc #?

My engine serial number is - M320848

The main difference is that the Seloc belongs on a roll in the head . . . Take a look at the Adult's Only sticky above ^^^^^^^

#31 is a Mercury written service manual. Heres a link:

Without a doubt,,, the Mercruiser manual!

#1 Because it's accurate and will have the info you need.

#2 Because it's (most likely) downloadable for free in the Adults only section.

Slightly different opinion. I say both. There were times when servicing my Johnson outboard, that the factory manual would confuse me because it's written for trained mechanics.

Seloc sometimes presented the same instructions in a slightly different way, and/or with a different graphic. Between the 2 of them I was always able to figure it out.

If you can, buy both (plus an owner's manual and parts catalog- it shows how things fit together).

If only buying one, the factory manual is way better.

Thanks everyone, just downloaded it. I think I will also get the Seloc version, it's nice to have something in hand rather than on the computer. John, you make a good point about different explanations on the same thing.

Anything you read in the Seloc be sure to go back to the factory manual to verify the info.
I have seen just completely WRONG info in the Selocs.

Yes typo's happen a lot in the aftermarket books.
