Which materials to use

I've removed the deck from my Hydra Sport cabin boat and removed all the rotten wood from the gunnels and cabin walls. I want to use 1/2" nidacore to replace all the rotten wood. What type of cloth/matt should I use to do this repair. I plan to use epoxy resin. I have 10 yds. of 1708, can I use this material.
I'm currently grinding as much of the old cloth and resin as I can get off.

Re: Which materials to use

Hey Bert

I would suggest doing a small test with your epoxy & glass to make sure it sticks well in the repair areas. Epoxy is usually the best choice for this type of repair. The 1708 will give you the best strength/weight of any glass so it's a good choice. Biaxial tapes are good to use as well when joining things together. Make a small fillet of thickened epoxy where you join the new deck to the hull so the glass has at least a 1" radius to follow. Use at least two layers stagered 3" on each joint for a really strong join.

I've never used nidacore so can't comment on that. I always do a small test to ensure my materials are compatible.

Thanks Rick, Anyone else have any input on nida core, or should I use something else.
